Damon is an experienced trial attorney who has dedicated his legal career to defending individuals accused of crimes across Colorado. Before opening Brune Law Office, he spent twelve years working as a municipal and state public defender on the Western Slope, Northeastern Colorado, and Denver Metro area, fighting for thousands of people accused of crimes ranging from park curfew violation to homicide.
Damon has seen the damage criminal investigation and prosecution do to peoples' lives. He knows when it comes to criminal allegations - there is no such thing as a small case - and that realization guides his client-centered approach to criminal defense.
In his twelve years as a public defender, Damon learned that criminal defense attorneys must possess negotiation skills, a superior knowledge of the law, and an unyielding willingness to hold the prosecution to their burden of proof. Damon has built a reputation as a fearless trial attorney by taking more than 70 cases to trial - securing acquittals, dismissals, and favorable outcomes including mitigated sentences. He has also developed a specialized knowledge of treatment courts and harm reduction by serving as the criminal defense representative on the First Judicial District Veteran Treatment Court and the Denver Municipal Court Competency Diversion Project.
Professionally, Damon has trained criminal defense attorneys and stakeholders across Colorado on topics ranging from domestic violence, jury selection, cross-examination, preserving a constitutional record at trial, and developing not guilty by reason of insanity defense.
Damon earned his law degree from the University of Colorado Law School, where he served as chapter president of the National Lawyers Guild, was selected as a Rothgerber Moot Court Finalist, and represented indigent clients in the Legal Aid Clinic.
